| Superbly painted in wucai enamels in Ming style with four dragon medallions on the exterior, two dragons in underglaze blue chasing pearls amidst flames and clouds, two painted in overglaze red doing the same,the medallions surrounded by blooming lotus flowers in underglaze blue, overglaze red and aubergine surrounded by lotus tendrils and leaves, the border on the shoulder and base of plantains, the border around the neck of triangles filled with lotus tendrils, a band of underglaze blue around the mouth rim, the glaze stopping perfectly at the foot, the base glazed with a six character apocryphal Wanli mark in underglaze blue within a double circle. This very fine jar replicates Wanli period designs and colors with great accuracy, including the form, shape and color of the encirling dragons and the ensuing decorations. The quality of the porcelain and the white glaze, the use of the underglaze blue and overglaze enamel is excellent. |
