Unusual and rare garlic neck vase covered with an unctous Song Dynasty blue Junyao glaze, the bulbous body topped with a long neck that ends with a garlic shaped mouth, the footrim in a brown wash to emulate the burnt orange of a Junyao firing. 18th C. 5 3/4 in.
Provenance: London, England Collection
This vase is modeled after the garlic neck bronze vases produced during the Han Dynasty and then glazed with a Song Dynasty styled glaze. It was during the 18th C that efforts were made to emulate the glazes used during the Song. This vase is an excellent example of that effort.
