Rare Pr Blue and White Jars Wanli Mark 18th C
Decorated in Ming style with two bands of floral sprays separated by leafy tendrils, the foot rim and shoulders with bands of ruyi, all in underglazed blue, a six character apocryphal Wanli mark in underglaze blue on the base. 18th C. 3 1/2" high.

Provenance: Philidelphia, Pennsylvania Collection

Jars with this decoration from the 18th C fall into two categories: the design is used as the outline for doucai decoration generally with a Qianlong mark and of the period; and the design is left as it is. In the latter cases the jars have a Qianlong mark and are of the period, or they contain an apocryphal Chenghua or Wanli mark, as is the case with the pair of jars offered here.
