Well painted famille rose chicken bowl with a slightly everted rim and five well plumed hens within a fenced area, their feathers puffed and each in its own pursuits amongst flowering plants including flowering prunus that meanders across the back of the bowl, the interior glazed white, the glaze pooling perfectly at the foot, an iron red four character Hongxian mark and of the period on the base. 5 1/4 in.

Chicken bowls and cups, especially those with reign marks and of the period have always been considered highly. Many examples of Qianlong mark and period pieces have been published.
Hongxian mark and period chicken bowls such as the one offered here are rare, and we have been unable to locate any examples that have been published.
