Modeled after an archaistic bronze form of slender cylindrical shape flaring at the mouth, the middle section carved and applied with archaistic animal masks and leiwen motifs reserved on a further leiwen ground and divided into sections by raised flanges, all set between upright and pendent plantain leaves around the neck and foot and beneath a white glaze. Kangxi. 17 in. high.
Condition: Perfect. No cracks, chips, hairlines or other damages.
Provenance: Woodbury, Connecticut collection purchased from an estate who held the vase since at least 1989.
Examples of tis elegant dehua porcelain beaker vase from the Kangxi period were available in the US market through the mid-1990's but have all but disappeared, the last known pair having been sold at Sotheby's New York, September 21, 2005, Lot 92, the pair being an exact duplicate of the one being offered here.
