| Standing on a slightly concave pedestal foot, the bowl painted with swirling lotus leaves and tendrils interspersed with reverse swastika and other geometric designs, a double band of underglaze blue at the wide everted mouthrim, the cavetto with a spray of florals between a double ring of underglaze blue, the heap and pile effect of the cobalt blue evident, the pedestal with fire brands between a band of underglaze blue at the top and scrolls in underglaze blue at the foot, the hollow base unmarked. 15th C. 6 in. high.
Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks, hairlines or other damages. Small rim frit on mouthrim as shown in photographs.
Provenance: Cleveland, Ohio collection acquired prior to 1992.
Early Ming blue and white stem cups are now rare to the US market. This stem cup is not a modern reproduction and was part of a collection put together in the Midwest in the 1980's and early 1990's. |
