Nicely molded blue and white covered box with medallions of leaves and designs on the base running to the top that is also decorated with medallions of patterns, the deep underglaze blue softened by the exterior slip, a circle of underglaze blue at the foot, the bottom showing evidence of being burnt in the firing, both the top and bottom bearing a Christies Lot 337(3) sticker from the June 28, 1984 sale. Yuan. 2 3/4 in. high x 2 in. diam.
Condition: Perfect. No chips, cracks or other damages. Evidence of imperfections in the firing as shown in the photographs.

This authentic Yuan blue and white box is an example of the earliest manufacture of blue and white wares which began during the late Song/Yuan period. It makes an excellent example that can be used to compare a real blue and white Yuan piece from the modern fakes now permeating the market.
