Pair of finely potted and painted baluster brown crackle vases with depictions of warriors on horseback and on foot, a band of brown wash on the shoulder and above the foot, depictions of lotus flowers and tendrils below the mouth, the clear glaze pooling nicely at the mouth and the foot, an apocryphal Chenghua mark in brown on the base of each. Qing. 10 1/2 in. high.

Vases of this type were made in the late Qing in many degrees of quality. This pair is among the best of its type, the potting, painting and enameling being very well done. Vases of this kind are now rare to the US market.
