Extremely fine multi-colored enamel covered bowl, the intricate design of circles, ellipses, squares on both the bowl and the top set between ruyi borders and lappets, the mouth rim gilt, a six character Tongzhi mark in undergalze iron red on the base and the top and of the period. 4 in. diam.

This extremely fine Tongzhi mark and period porcelain covered bowl is very rare to the market and we no of no other example of this bowl published. Part of a collection of Tongzhi bowls acquired by an American diplomat serving in Shanghai during the last quarter of the 19th C this bowl is remarkable both for the unique type of decoration and also the quality of its manufacture and thinness of the porcelain.
