Extremely fine and rare pair of three tiered famille rose pedestal bowls decorated a profusion of multi-colored enamels on the exterior of pomegranates together with their branches, leaves, tendrils and flowers as well as blooming citron with their leaves and tendrils in yellow enamel, the base with blooming chrysanthemums, peonies below a hex pattern, a circle of florals around the lip of the top and base, a scene of boys with lanterns at play in intricate detail on the gilt top, the base with a four character 18th C mark in overglaze red. Republic. 6 in. high.

Condition: Perfect. No cracks, chips, hairlines or other damages. Minor loss of gilt to top as seen in photographs.

Provenance: Raleigh, North Carolina estate

Copied from their Qianlong counterpart, the boys scene taken from a Qianliong mark and period vase of exceptional quality, this pair of 3 tiered pedestal bowls is of unparalleled quality and rarity. Made during the period between 1916-1928 when eight of the finest painters in China were commissioned to paint scenes on porcelain, these pedestal bowls represent the best of the Republic period.
